Quantum Computing and Cyber Security

Quantum computing, as the phrase puts itself clearly, is computing with the speed of atoms. It involves atomic programming and is simply a chunk of verse. It’s really a field specializing on developing computers based on the quantum theory. It is expected to alter the ways we use for securing our networks, data, networks and daily use IOT devices.

It’s a quickly developing field of technology that will uproot the current foundations of cyber-security and eventually the techniques that we have to adapt to counter it. Quantum computers are so much more powerful than any of the trendy technologies created so far.

But on what principles would a quantum computer work?

Quantum computers work with quantum bits in contrast to classical machines. A classical bit will either be zero or one. A quantum bit or a qubit, however, will exist in multiple states simultaneously. In theory, once qubits are inextricably joined, physicists will exploit the interference between their wave-like quantum states to perform calculations which may otherwise take an immeasurable amount of time. But like everything, It has conjoined benefits and threats. One area that is essential to cyber-security is encryption.

Encryption protects our on-line life (from our personal information to our skilled data) from all the threats present on the virtual platform. Because of its high speed, it’ll be straight forward for a quantum computer to break today’s strongest encryption keys as if they were never encrypted. This is very dangerous. All the encrypted information that’s safe today could be decrypted and misused.

The bright side to this high speed is that the technology defending our tech will also be based on quantum computing. The same speed that can be used to break encryption, can also be used to process far more complex encryption algorithms. This fact brings the necessary balance to the domain of encryption.

Although this technology isn’t so strong right now, we’re expecting to see this potential shortly. Whenever this technology will become usable, all the weak encryption algorithms will cease to exist. Quantum computing has a huge potential and might essentially modify the way future computers would work. However, it still has a great distance to travel.
